Commercial solar rebates in Victoria

Sometimes the government (state or federal) releases funding programs to assist businesses with energy efficiency upgrades, such as upgrading to solar.

Solar for Business Program

15,000 rebates have been made available for eligible businesses over the next three years, under the Solar for Business Program. Applications are currently open.

Solar Victoria’s Solar for Business Program provides rebates and interest-free loan options for businesses wanting to access renewable energy (solar PV) by providing financial support toward equipment and installation costs.

Solar Victoria is a government entity under the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning (DELWP), and the issuing body for commercial solar rebates under the Solar for Business Program.

Solar for Business Rebate

5,000 rebates of up to $3,500 are currently available for eligible businesses. The rebates are capped at 50% (maximum $3,500) of the net cost of an approved solar PV system with up to 30kW inverter capacity. The net cost is inclusive of discounts, such as the STC discount.

When the 5,000 rebates have been allocated, the maximum rebate amount reduces to $1,750. Now is the time to invest!

Solstra is a New Energy Tech Approved Seller. We can help you select, supply and install a commercial solar PV system under the rebate criteria for your business.

A 13.3KW commercial solar PV system fitting the criteria for the Solar for Business rebate, after the Victorian Solar Rebate and the Federal Government STC discount, would be around a $8600 investment. On average, a small to medium-sized business uses around 30 to 50 kilowatt hours a day. A system of this size would cover around 50 – 70% of its usage and save approx $2200 per annum.

In addition to the rebate, interest-free loans of up to $5,000 are available to support businesses upgrading to commercial solar. This means that the immediate out-of-pocket cost (after the rebate) of a commercial solar PV system installation could be even lower.

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

Your new commercial solar PV system is also eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). This is a federal government-funded payment made to purchasers of small renewable energy systems for the value of the emissions reduction they create.

Commercial solar rebate eligibility

If you are a business owner who rents or owns your work premises, you may eligible for a commercial solar rebate under the Solar for Business Program. The program is open to all entity types, including charities and not-for-profits.

The full eligibility criteria can be found at Solar Victoria Solar for Business Program. We’ve included a few key points for your information below.

  • You must be the owner of a business that employs at least one person (not including yourself) and less than 50 full-time employees
  • You must operate from non-residential premises that is individually metered
  • Businesses that have previously received a Solar for Business Rebate are not eligible.

Business owners renting their premises are eligible to apply for the rebate or a loan providing that the installation, ownership and maintenance (during and after the lease term) are agreed by all parties involved.

If you rent your premises, Solstra can advise you on what’s involved initially and ongoing to arm you with the facts and equip you for that discussion with your landlord.
